Highly developed communication skills are essential. Also, it is helpful if applicants have the ability to deal with difficult clients effectively if the need arises. Applicants should have a commitment to improving access to legal services for disadvantaged groups in the community.
This Service prefers students wanting at least a 40 day placement.

About this Legal Assistance Service (LAS):
The Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre is funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department and Legal Aid NSW. The Centre was established in 2011 and is based in Port Macquarie, with face-to-face outreach services provided to the Kempsey and Taree communities once per week.
The Centre is auspiced by Advocacy Law Alliance Inc and offers a range of legal and related services including, but not limited to:
Legal Information and referral
Advocacy and representation for particularly vulnerable clients
Community legal education
Law reform and public policy development and advocacy.
In addition to providing general legal services, the Centre focuses on improving access to justice for people living with disabilities.
PLT Placement responsibilities include client intake, file work, legal drafting, interviewing clients, and following up client matters. PLT Placements always work under supervision of a solicitor. Most PLT Placements will also be allocated an ongoing project to move forwards on a more independent basis, although ongoing mentoring is provided.
