South East Community Legal Centre, Mt Gambier
There is never a dull moment working in the small team at the South East Community Legal Centre, with candidates exposed to a wide range of legal issues.
Candidates will be required to do legal research; write letters; draft documents; help with legal education and update fact sheets.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about assisting disadvantaged and vulnerable community members to understand and resolve their legal issues.
About this Legal Assistance Service (LAS):
Outreach services are provided on a fortnightly basis to Millicent, Naracoorte and Mt. Gambier prison. The South East CLS also provides outreach services as required to Robe, Kingston, Keith and Bordertown.
This service is a generalist legal service providing legal information, advice and casework. Practice areas include:
- family law,
- consumer credit,
- some consumer issues,
- social security,
- administrative law,
- tenancy, and
- some minor criminal matters.
Ongoing casework may be provided to disadvantaged members of the community who are not eligible for legal aid. The service also provides community legal education to community groups and community workers in the area.
About Mount Gambier:
Situated at Mount Gambier in the south east of South Australia (about halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide). The South East is a cool climate region, offering a range of recreational activities including sea and river fishing, boating, cave diving, bush walking, and a range of sporting activities for adults and children. There are also cafes and restaurants as well as wine tasting in the Coonawarra, Limestone Coast and Padtheway regions.
