About this Legal Assistance Service (LAS):
The Riverland Community Legal Service is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s department and is accredited with the National Association of Community Legal Centres. It is 238 kilometres north-east of Adelaide, the capital of the state of South Australia.
Riverland Community Legal Service is situated at Berri on the banks of the River Murray. Outreach services are provided throughout the region including to Cadell prison and Magistrate Court circuits. The service also undertakes home and hospital visits.
This service is a generalist legal service providing legal information, advice and casework to the Riverland region of South Australia. Practice areas include family law, criminal law (including criminal injuries compensation), residential tenancy law, neighbourhood disputes and minor civil law.
The service also provides community legal education to community groups. Workshop topics are diverse and can range from discussing the legal system in general to explaining specific legal procedures and issues relating to social justice. Participants have an opportunity to discuss the legal issues raised with a qualified solicitor and are encouraged to reflect upon the application of the law.
