Bunbury CLC is an intergral part of legal and mediation service provision in the South West of Western Australia. It is an independent, non-profit organization providing legal advice and assistance to low income and disadvantaged people in the South West of Western Australia on a range of legal matters. The Centre has established strong inter-agency links within the South West community.
The Centre operates five days a week from 9:00am until 4.30pm each day. Face to face and telephone legal advice is available twice a week from the Centre in Bunbury.
Bunbury Community Legal Centre offers legal assistance, ongoing casework and in some cases representation to low-income and disadvantaged people who are unable to access Legal Aid funding or the services of private practitioners. In-house legal advice and assistance is offered weekly from its office in Bunbury on Mondays and Thursdays. In house client base is Bunbury, Australind, Eaton, Boyanup, Dardanup and nearby areas.
The Centre particularly provides assistance in the following areas of law:
Child Support: Assistance is provided to both carer and liable parents and includes advice, casework as required and representation in difficult cases.
Family Law: Advice, negotiation, assistance with preparation of documentation, and representation as deemed necessary.
In addition the Centre provides initial advice and referral across a broad range of subjects such as contract law, torts law, employment law, consumer law, leases and tenancy law, domestic violence, probate and wills, personal injury, debt and minor civil matters.
In addition to the in-house legal advice, the Centre has, over the last 6 years, provided a highly successful outreach program in a number of south western towns.
Our outreach solicitor attends Busselton, Margaret River, Collie, Harvey, Bridgetown, Manjimup once a week, and Narrogin fortnightly on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
Community Legal Education
The Centre also focuses upon the need to provide readily accessible advice and information about the law. The Centre recognises the vital role of legal education in encouraging individual and community empowerment and self-determination.
